Description
Seated close up portrait of an elder Bedouin man at a fort (likely Al Muwaiji Fort) in Al Ain. An elder Bedouin man with a long goatee sits with his body facing towards the left and his head turned forward. He wears a thobe (long shirt) and a plain ghutra (headscarf) topped with a dark 'agal (head rope). His ghutra hangs loosely around his head and down over his chest. Behind him a large bush and a tall tree grow outside the walls of a fort. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
