Description

Group portrait of Wilfred Thesiger with the four members of his travelling party who accompanied him on his first crossing of the Rub' al Khali (Empty Quarter). In the first row Musallim bin Tafl, a tribesman of the Bayt Kathir Bedouin, sits on the left. Salim bin Kabina, a young tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, sits on the right. In the back row Mabkhaut bin Arbain, a tribesman of the Bayt Gidad lineage of Bayt Kathir Bedouin, stands on the left. Wilfred Thesiger stands at the centre. Muhammad al Auf, a tribesman of the Bayt Mbarik lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands on the right. Each man is holding a rifle.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
