Description

Full length portrait of an Arab man, one of Wilfred Thesiger's guides, carrying firewood during the party's journey from Jabal Sumeini to the port city of Sharjah. The man, a retainer of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, walks across a bare sandy area with a large load of firewood over his shoulder. He is wearing a thobe (long shirt) topped with a cartridge belt and has his ghutra (headscarf) wrapped closely around his head and face. In the background tufts of vegetation grow on a vast flat plain that stretches into the distance.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
