Description

Portrait of a sailor on a dhow (sailboat) travelling through the Persian Gulf from Dubai to Bahrain Island. A man in a thobe (long shirt) and cap balances in a crouch on a wooden yard, propping himself up with one hand on another nearby yard. Below him a sail hangs from the yard, while behind him the sky is clear and empty of clouds. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
