Description
Standing full length portrait of Sahail bin Tahi, a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, on a sand dune during the party's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, likely in the region of Al Humrah sands. Sahail bin Tahi, a tribesman of the Mudairiba lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands on a sand dune in the left foreground, holding a rifle in a tasselled leather sheath over his shoulder and leaning on a camel stick. He wears a ghutra (headscarf) on his head and has a khanjar (dagger) on a belt over his thobe (long shirt). In the background low rolling dunes stretch off into the distance. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
