Description

View of sailors on the deck of a dhow (sailboat) travelling through the Persian Gulf from Dubai to Bahrain Island. In the foreground two sailors secure a sail rope to the mast of a dhow. Behind them on the right a group of men stand alongside a length of sail which has been tied in a long roll. High above them another sail is filled with wind. Behind them the sea is choppy. In the far left background land is visible along the horizon. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
