Description
View of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's falconry party riding camels in Al Khatam sands near Jebel Hafeet (Jabal Hafit). In the foreground a saluki hunting dog pauses in a vast gravel plain dotted with scattered tufts of vegetation. Behind the saluki Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (far left) rides at the head of a line of falconers and a young boy riding camels. The young boy at the centre of the line is possibly Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan. The two men at the back of the line both carry falcons. In the far distance beyond Jebel Hafeet (Jabal Hafit) rises high above the flat plain in the far right distance. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
