Description

Seated profile portrait of Salim bin Ghabaisha, one of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling companions, riding a camel during the party's journey from Jabal Sumeini to the port city of Sharjah. Salim bin Ghabaisha, a tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, kneels in the saddle of his camel [the camel's nose and legs are cut off by the frame]. Salim bin Ghabaisha wears a cartridge belt and leather suspenders over his thobe (long shirt) and has a ghutra (headscarf) wrapped around his head. In the background large bushes grow across a vast flat plain.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
