Description

Seated profile portrait of Muhammad, a sheikh of the Rashid Bedouin, in his encampment in the Ramlat ar Rabbad sands near Bir al Tawil. Muhammad, an elderly man with a long white beard, is kneeling in the sand facing to the left. In the background there is a small pile of sticks. Wilfred Thesiger and his Bedouin companions stayed with Muhammad and his sons during Wilfred Thesiger's first crossing of the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) in December 1946.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
