Description
Seated profile portrait of Musallim bin Al Kamam, a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, on a sand dune in the Baynunah or Al Khatam sands during the party's return journey to Al Ain. Musallim bin Al Kamam, a sheikh of the Musaifar lineage of Rashid Bedouin, kneels in an area of bare sand, facing towards the right. Musallim bin Al Kamam wears a dark ghutra (headscarf) wrapped around his head and a thobe (long shirt) cinched with a cartridge belt. Behind him a few clumps of vegetation grow on the crests of low rolling dunes that stretch from the near distance into the far horizon. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
