Description
Seated portrait of two members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party at a Manasir encampment in the Baynunah sands. Two of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin companions make coffee beside a fire. Musallim bin Al Kamam, a sheikh of the Musaifar lineage of Rashid Bedouin, sits beside a kettle on a fire, pouring water into an urn. Sahail bin Tahi, a tribesman of the Mudairiba lineage of Rashid Bedouin, kneels on the right next to a pile of firewood. Supplies and equipment rest next to them in the sand. On the right an elderly tribesman of the Manasir Bedouin sits cross-legged in front of a bush. He has a thick beard and wears a ghutra (headscarf) wrapped around his head and a light coloured thobe (long shirt). Behind them vegetation grows in clumps across the sand. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
