Description

View of exposed bedrock in Al Dhafra sands of the Rub' al Khali, taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey to Baynunah. In the right foreground a bare sand dune borders a deep depression. Exposed rings of sedimentary sandstone sit above the sand floor of the depression. Behind it scattered vegetation grows on the slope of a dune bordering the depression. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
