Description
View of three members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party at a palm grove in Liwa oasis. Salim bin Ghabaisha, a tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands in the far left foreground, looking at a large pile of camping gear lying in the sand. Behind him and just to the right Sahail bin Tahi, a tribesman of the Mudairiba lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands holding a large blanket. At the centre a third member of the party is folding a large blanket. On the left behind the men camels are couched in the sand. In the distance date palms cultivated by Bani Yas villagers grow scattered across the sand in the far left. Further beyond softly rolling dunes rise above the grove and stretch into a high ridge along the horizon. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
