Description

Half-length group portrait of a young Sheikh Mubarak bin Mohammed Al Nahyan standing with two of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's retainers in Al Ain. The three stand in a line holding rifles in their right hands. They all wear ghutra (headscarves) and thobe (long shirts) with cartridge belts and khanjar (daggers). Sheikh Mubarak bin Mohammed Al Nahyan stands at the centre. In the far background a few trees grow in the far distance. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
