Description
View of Al Khandaq Fort in Buraimi. In the right foreground a man in a light-coloured thobe (long shirt) stands in an expanse of rocky sand dotted with grass and small shrubs. In the distance behind Al Khandaq fort sits on the left next to a date palm plantation. The fort is surrounded by a defensive trench. In the far right distance the mountains of Oman are shrouded in mist. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
