Description
View of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party taking a rest in the Al Batin sands during their journey across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) from Al Dhafra sands to Liwa oasis. Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, rests with their camels in front of a rocky triangular hill in the midst of a flat salt plain (sabkha). The area surrounding the hill is dotted with patches of salt bushes. At the far left a man stands holding a rope. At the centre two men stand with a few camels. One of the men adjusts the saddlery on a couched camel. At the far right a fourth man is taking the saddle off a couched camel. In the far distance the flat leads to an area of high dunes.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
